Innovate to Grow: an opportunity for farm and food technology businesses

The farm and food technology sector is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by advances in artificial intelligence, automation and process digitisation. While small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a critical role in this evolution, many continue to face challenges progressing early-stage ideas, managing commercial risk and accessing specialist expertise.

The Innovate to Grow: Farm & Food Technology program, delivered by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), has been developed to address these challenges. The program is designed to support eligible businesses in converting emerging opportunities into clearly defined and commercially viable research and development (R&D) pathways.

Program features include:

  • Free, structured online learning modules focused on contemporary digitisation and innovation practices
  • Practical guidance from experienced facilitators with sector-specific expertise
  • Support to modernise R&D processes and improve commercial readiness
  • Access to valuable industry networks across the farm and food technology sector

Eligibility and suitability:

  • Targeted at SMEs operating within farm and food technology
  • Suitable for businesses seeking to improve the application of digital technologies within R&D activities
  • Relevant for entities developing or supplying solutions in areas including: Agritech and artificial intelligence, Food and beverage manufacturing, packaging and logistics, Livestock and aquaculture, Value-added products, Waste optimisation and recycling, Energy reduction and circular economy initiatives and other emerging farm and food technology applications

The program runs for eight weeks, is fully subsidised, and is delivered online. Applications close on 15 February 2026.

Eligible businesses can apply via the CSIRO website. The program represents a low-risk, high-value opportunity for SMEs seeking to strengthen their innovation capability and commercial outcomes within the farm and food technology sector.
