Australian businesses involved in brewing, distilling, and wine production are set to benefit from enhanced tax relief, providing a reduction in their tax liabilities.
Excise Remission Cap and Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) Rebate Increases
Currently, brewing and distilling businesses can claim a full refund of excise duty paid, up to a limit of $350,000 per annum. The Government has announced an increase in the excise remission cap to $400,000 for all eligible alcohol manufacturers.
Additionally, the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) producer rebate will be raised from $350,000 to $400,000.
These legislative changes will come into force on 1 July 2026.
Optimising Tax Reliefs and Allowances
Tax liabilities can place significant strain on cash flow and profitability for producers within the drinks industry. The announced increase in tax relief offers an opportunity to reduce tax costs and should prompt a review of whether all available allowances and reliefs are being claimed.
